Hyaluronic acid is soluble in water and is one the fundamental components of the connective tissues in the human organism and in other mammals, necessary for structural functions; it also has an effect on the resistance and maintenance of skin’s structure.
It is able to absorb great quantities of water therefore retains the water content of the tissues that renders the tissue plastic and permeable.
The reduction of hyaluronic acid therefore causes skin weakness that promotes the formation of wrinkles and other inaesthetic skin conditions.
Hyaluronic acid is practically everywhere in the organism: in all the connective tissues, including the vitreous humor of the eye, the umbilical cord, synovial fluid of bone joints.
Artificial tears containing hyaluronic acid take advantage of its ability to absorb great quantities of water content; in fact in contact with the tear drops, the activity of hyaluronic acid renders the liquid, from a mechanical point of view, similar to the natural tear film that covers the eye surface: viscosity is reduced when attrition is high, for example during involuntary rhythmic opening and closing of the eyelids, therefore avoiding any damage to the surface of the eyeball, while viscosity is higher when the eyes are open and have a greater need to maintain humidity, therefore avoiding tear film rupture.

| Description |
BLU YAL® eyedrops are an innovative combination of a saline solution balanced and enrichened with synthetic hyaluronic acid.
The hyaluronic acid contained in BLU yal® is strongly balanced for molecular weight, length and regularity of the chains.
This characteristic offers the following benefits:
- an even distribution of the eyedrops around the cornea
- uniformity of the viscosity
- improved stability of the tear film
- normalisation of the surface pressure
- improved adhesion to the corneo-conjunctival cells
- increased persistence on the cornea
- possibility of various administrations of water eye supplements during the day in order to re-establish the correct lacrimal condition |

Both scientific literature and experience has demonstrated that all preservative agents, even at low concentrations (>0.01%), are epitheliotoxic, damaging the membrane cells and causing allergies. In some cases intoxication can be caused by accumulation of, for example, preservatives containing mercury.
The use of contact lenses and chronic therapies increase the permanancy of preservative agents and subsequent allergies. Not only, preservatives containing chlorine, binding to the lipid layer of the tear film can jeopardise its stability, increasing the solubility of the membrane lipids which can cause cytotoxicity. |

BLU yal® in the single-dose form does not contain preservatives. Our objective was to identify a biocompatible preservative, not histolesive and allergenic in order to render the multi-dose form of BLU yal® equally secure to ocular tissues.
N-HYDROXYMETHYLGLYCINATE (N-IG) is a product of the Glycine amino acid that expresses a wide spectrum antimicrobial activity that ranges from 3.5 to 12 pH.
Toxicological tests for biocompatibility (according to ISO 10993) were performed by a certified laboratory on the product containing N-Hydroxymethylglycinate preservative: the results of the tests demonstrated that the preservative was NOT CYTOTOXIC, NOT IRRITATING, DOES NOT PRODUCE RESISTANCE TO SENSITIVITY. |

| Product Use |
BLU yal® is a tear substitute useful to protect the cornea; is transparent, sterile and viscoelastic.
BLU yal® protects, moistens and lubricates the eye surface, procuring longterm comfort against aggression from:
- mechanical stress: for example, wearing hard or soft contact lenses, during ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical procedures
- enviromental stress: for example, air conditioning, wind, cold, dry air, polution, sigarette smoking
- vision stress: caused by prolonged activity in front of the computer screen, using a microscope, driving.
