MACULAR® B forte is a supplement containing Folic Acid, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, Lutein, Zinc, Copper, Selenium and Ginkgo Biloba extract.
These nutrients can combat the oxidation effects of free radicals, which are at the root of the processes of aging, cell death and vascular damage in the brain and various other organs.
Our daily diet does not always provide sufficient intake of these substances, and this situation is aggravated in elderly people by a reduced ability to absorb them.
The increase in oxidative phenomena, especially those associated with atmospheric pollution, smoking and exposure to sunlight, and the reduced availability of certain antioxidant agents are causing an increase in degenerative diseases in some structures in the eye with complex energy metabolism, namely the retina and, in particular, the macular area. It is precisely here that light radiation comes into contact with the photoreceptors, thus enabling vision. It is therefore necessary to have the right antioxidant potential in order to maintain the balance between the oxidative processes and the cellular processes in the retina.
MACULAR® B forte components have a normalizing effect on the cellular physiological processes:
• zinc and copper are involved in numerous enzymatic processes in the retina and are important in relation to age-related degeneration;
• selenium and vitamin E are powerful antioxidants which are essential for slowing down cellular aging processes and, therefore, for preventing degeneration;
• lutein is a xanthophyll which selectively accumulates in the retina as the pigment of the macula lutea, where it protects the delicate macular structures from high-energy ultra-violet radiation;
• Ginkgo Biloba is a vegetable extract with high levels of flavonoids, which have important roles including in nervous tissues such as the retina. In addition to its antioxidant effect in the lipoperoxidation processes, it also has a crucial function in nerve cell energy metabolism and in relation to the enzyme aldose reductase;
• vitamins B2, B6 and B12, along with folic acid, are believed to make an important contribution to the control of homocysteine levels in the blood. These vitamins are also useful in minimising the risk of venal and arterial occlusions in the retina. It is believed that these vitamins may also act as antioxidants.

Indications
MACULAR® B forte is indicated for an increased requirement for folic acid, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin E, lutein, zinc, copper, selenium and flavonoids, in order to help improve the principal biochemical processes associated with correct vascular function in the retina and the macula lutea.
MACULAR® B forte can also help defend against photo-oxidative agents, which can lead to ocular alterations.
Interactions
Ginkgo Biloba has a synergic action with some anticoagulant or platelet antiaggregant drugs. Those taking such drugs are advised to consult a doctor before taking this product.
Dosage and Administration
1 tablet per day.
