LUTEIN
According to scientific literature, lutein:
- is the specific carotenoid of the macula 1,2
- has intense anti-oxidant action on the retina
- increases levels of biological anti-oxidants (BAP, Biological Antioxidant Potential) and reduces the levels of radicals in newborns as early as in the fist hours after birth (TH, Total Hydroperoxide)
- may help with the correct maturation of the macula and the fovea during the foveation process.
DHA
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, a member of the omega-3 family) helps regulate important biological activities, such as fluidity, permeability and enzymatic activities of cell membranes in excitable cells. It may help with the proper development of the retina as it regulates the right level of fluidity of the membrane of photoreceptors and allows for the quick activation of the visual pigment (rhodopsin) by light stimulation. In addition, it may increase response to light stimulation and visual acuity.
DHA and LUTEIN have a synergic neuroprotective action on retinal photoreceptors, thanks to its control on oxidative stress apoptosis and to the promotion of the differentiation of retinal photoreceptors.
DHA and COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS
DHA is present in the brain and influences neurotransmission. It can therefore increase a child's learning skills.
Vitamin D3 and the musculoskeletal system
Vitamin D3 is one of the main regulators of calcium homeostasis in the human body:
- it optimizes the absorption of calcium in the intestines;
- it facilitates proper bone mineralization.
Vitamin D3 can also improve muscle tone by increasing the number and size of muscle fibers. |

| Description |
LUTEINDK® drops is a LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN supplement that also contains vitamins D3 and K1.
LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN are two carotenoids very common in nature and which the human body cannot synthesize.
These substances are normally ingested with foods rich with them (leafy vegetables with wide, green leaves such as the cabbage family and spinach, fruit such as apricot, kiwifruit etc). Nursing babies obtain them through their mother's milk.
Once absorbed, LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN are distributed to all tissues, but accumulate selectively in the eye.
In particular, they concentrate in the retina and in the macula. The macula is fully developed around the 4th or 5th month of age, and it is in this tissue that sharp images are formed.
LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN help preserve the conditions and functionality of the sensitive structures of the eye (in particular the retina and the macula), preventing or minimizing damage caused by free radicals. Specialized literature provides several descriptions of their anti-oxidant properties and the advantages of taking them.
LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN can penetrate the placental barrier and are also found in colostrum and in breast milk. LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN can therefore be useful for eye health, in adults as well as in babies who are only a few hours old.
Supplementing these substances becomes necessary whenever more of them is needed or when their levels are low, during the maturation of the eye structures dedicated to vision (macula) as well as for their preservation.
VITAMIN D3 is necessary to fight the risk of rachitis and chronic degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis. Rachitis is an alteration of normal bone development. Premature and low-weight babies or babies who are fed exclusively breast milk present a higher risk for these conditions.
VITAMIN K1, also called phylloquinone, is produced by green plants and is one of the two forms of vitamin K.
Vitamin K1 is fundamental for the production and functioning of blood clotting regulation factors.
Low levels of vitamin K1, in particular in breastfeeding babies, may result in a coagulation disorder called Deficiency of Vitamin K-Dependent Clotting Factors (VKDB). |

INTENDED USES
LUTEINDK® drops is indicated whenever the need for these substances is increased or its ingestion is reduced in the diet, at all ages.
LUTEINDK® drops can be particularly helpful to prevent damages to the retina or to the macula due to excessive free radicals, or whenever more protection is required against oxidative stress or during the development of vision.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
0.5 ml (14 drops), as marked on the dropper, once a day.
COUNTER-INDICATIONS
LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN have no counter-indications and can be taken at any age. |
