| Description |
IRIDIUM® A is an ophthalmic solution containing extracts of Echinacea purpurea in a SODIUM HYALURONATE solution, with AMINO ACIDS.
Increasing evidence shows that long-term therapy with topic anti-glaucoma drugs may induce significant alterations of the conjunctival and lacrimal functions, which result in disturbances of the physiology of the surface of the eye.
Studies show important modifications of the local immunology of the anterior chamber; in particular, the conjunctival and trabecular districts show infiltration of inflammatory cells, with evidence of participation of the complement system as early mediator of the inflammatory response to the topic anti-glaucoma therapy.
The alterations observed can be thus summed up: direct action of the drug's active principle, histological damage caused by the contact between preservatives and tissues, and duration of the treatment.
This evidence inevitably has reflexes on the management of patients in chronic therapy for glaucoma. These patients are not only at risk of damage related to their underlying condition, but also of iatrogenic lesions mostly on the eye surface, secondary to the chronic use of anti-glaucoma eye drops.
A suitable and spot-targeted lacrimal integration may be the first step towards proper management of glaucoma patients in chronic topic hypotonic therapy. |

| Product Use |
IRIDIUM® A consists of a sterile ophthalmic solution containing hyaluronic acid, Echinacea purpurea extract and amino acids, with the purpose of protecting corneal epithelium and contributing to increase the biological defense of the lacrimal film by stabilizing and preserving its characteristics.
Hyaluronic acid is a mucopolysaccharide that is a component of several tissues in our body. It adheres to the mucus of the surface of the eye, protecting, humidifying and lubricating it.
Thanks to its mucoadhesive properties, it remains on the surface of the eye for a prolonged period of time, stabilizing the lacrimal film.
The Echinacea purpurea extract contains substances proven to help preserve the immunologic defenses of the lacrimal film and to facilitate repair processes on the eye surface.
The sodium hydroxymethylglycinate (N-IG) contained in IRIDIUM A single-dose is a new amino acid with anti-microbial action, resulting in an efficient preserving action. It has no negative effects on the eye surface.
